What it is
Summer and early fall bring the stings: bees, wasps, hornets, yellow jackets, and fire ants, plus the spiders and mosquitoes that leave itchy, swollen bites. Most reactions are local — pain, swelling, and itching that settle within a day or two. A smaller number of people develop larger local reactions or true allergic reactions, which is where an evaluation matters: the first severe reaction teaches you something you want to know before the second one.
