What it is
Ear pain has a handful of common causes: middle ear infections behind the eardrum, outer ear infections from water or cotton swabs, pressure changes from colds and allergies, and referred pain from a sore throat or teeth. Children get middle ear infections more than anyone because their eustachian tubes are small and horizontal, which is why earaches spike during cold and flu season in families with young kids.
